I have been teaching guitar and bass guitar for more than six years and has worked with students from six to sixty, in class sized groups, duos and individuals. A skilled communicator, my style is fluid and creative, concentrating on the quality of class experience and the laying of foundations for musical confidence and enthusiasm. I predominantly use guitar tabulature within the teaching context, and my teaching refers to web based audio visual sources (spotify, youtube etc.).
I am conversant with formal music notation and have taught beginners to read music and play basic classical pieces. My own style however, is blues and rock based, with a strong emphasis on improvisation, fretboard, chord and scale knowledge. I can fingerpick or play with a pick and play with a slide and own a range of guitars including a flamenco and a steel string on the acoustic side and a Squire Telecaster and a Gibson 335 on the electric. I use a vintage Vox V125 valve amp (when its not in the shop!).
As a performing musiciain whose first love has always been the live experience, I have always found much to hand on to those debuting in this arena on subjects such as stagecraft, gear management, set and rehearsal strategy and pre gig warm-ups. In 2005 and 2006 I organised highly entertaining and successful showcases for all interested students at the Sussex Arts Club in Brighton.
Overall my curiosity for and love of music has not yet found its outer limit and currently it is the world of soundtracks and scores which is providing a whole new challenge. If you are interested in discussing any of the above with a view to commissioning work or performance please contact.
